bootleg copy of windows xp professional

Leslie

I now have a bootleg copy of windows xp professional on
my home computer. I don't want it. If I run restore I
will lose too much stuff. My question is: If I buy a
legal copy of Windows xp professional and download it
will it get rid of the illegal copy? Help. I want to
have the real thing. Not an illegal copy.
Thanks
Leslie

Greetings --

You need to purchase and use a legitimate full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.

Remember, you should also report whomever sold you the pirated
software to the pertinent law enforcement agencies; you've been
defrauded.

How do you know that she didn't want to buy a bootleg copy in the first
place and now just feels guilty. How does she know its a bootleg copy?
Bootlegging is a 2 way street. Yes there is the despicable person selling
the bootleg copy but there is also the despicable person buying the bootleg
copy. the going price for Windows XP Pro upgrade is $199. If you pay less
than that by much, then you should probably be suspicisious and wonder about
the copy.

actually, if you buy a bootleg copy of winxp today it should cost about
US$3.60 (yep it's less than four united states dollars!). the only
difference between the bootleg copy and the original is that the bootleg
copy is already preactivated and you can't install xp sp1 or sp1a. that's
about it.

now, are not supposed to be happy that leslie wants to go legal? what i
have in mind though is that she is satisfied with how winxp works and thus
wants to make her use legal. i would also like to believe that microsoft is
happy about her decision.

anyways, carey and bruce have given her some good reference. i hope it
hopes her well.

to leslie, go girl! LOL!

peace to all!

Here in the UK, Leslie spelt 'ie' is usually a man's name - the female form
is 'ly'. Of course, in the US, proper girls names are almost obsolete - I've
misplaced the URL, but there is a site that lists all the stupid things you
Yanks have named your kids (there are other nations mentioned, of course,
but the site is 99% American). There was a woman who wanted to name her
*DAUGHTER* Christopher Reese.

Sometimes I despair of you lot... ;o)

How do *you* know that she is not a he?

Leslie is usually (though not exclusively) male, whereas Lesley is usually
(though not exclusively) female.

Cheers,

Precisely - though I've yet to see 'Lesley' used as male.

No, we'd actually defeated the Germans in the Battle of Britain before
you lot ever got hit a Pearl Harbor.
The materials and men were to liberate Europe, NOT to liberate Britain.

I'm an American & have always felt a bit ashamed at the way in WW1 & WW2
that we let the Brits weaken the enemy before we went in. However in Iraq
we went in at the same time as the Brits and after a bad start of killing a
lot of our friends....yes including British soldiers...we are now learning
the true price of going in at the beginning of a war.

Having said that lets not be too hard on Leslie who, for whatever reason,
wants to do the right thing.
