IIS Won't Install in SP2 XP Pro

Doug MacGregor

I upgraded to SP2 a month ago and I need to install IIS for some Web Design
I am doing with Dreamweaver MX 2004.
When I go to Add/Remove Windows Components and select IIS it starts to read
files but then gives me errors reading certain dll's from
c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 (staxmem, admexs,AppConf).
Why is this happening?
I was able to install the IIS on my old computer pre-SP2.
Thanks.

Use your Windows Xp CD to install IIS, if you notice, the path
[c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386] is not the right one. Instead, when
promted, direct the path to [*cdromdrive*:\i386]. That should work.

That doesnt seem to help me... It finds the correct files but cant seem to
copy any of the files from the disk. Any advice on that one?

I am having exactly the same problem. I have a Toshiba laptop which came
with XP Professional pre-installed. I don't have an installation disc.

I do have the windows XP SP2 CD rom and I receive the same message that it
cant COPY the file.
I hope someone out there knows the answer.

What Potenza stated earlier, should be the solution. That is, when the IIS
install
is asking for files it can't find, point the IIS install to
D:\i386
(where D is the drive letter of the CDROM drive)
(not sure why moondogy finds the correct files but is unable to copy the
files from disk - that sounds like a different problem altogether)

As for your laptop, you will need to use the XP PRO install disk or the
Restore XP PRO OS disk that came with the laptop. IIS install will need to
copy some files to your system that are not contained on the XP SP2 UPDATE
CD, but are found on the original XP PRO CD. And if you have a newer XP PRO
SP1 or XP PRO SP2 CD that is, the FULL XP PRO SP1 or SP2 OS version and not
just the XP SP2 UPDATE CD, then that disk should be used.

By itself, the XP SP2 UPDATE CD does not contain all of the files needed to
install IIS.

Hope that helps.
