IIS & FP SE continued drama

Ok, I have IIS installed and it shows up in the admin tools as well as
Server Extensions Administrator (is that all that should show up for FP and
IIS?)

I also opened fp2002 and clicked on File/Open Web and typed in
http://localhost - it says:

FP has detected a web server conflict on port 80, which has server ext fo
rthe fp personal web srver but is running a Microsoft -IIS/5.1 Server. Fp
requies that you intall the fp server ext on this new server before using
it. Would you like to see help on how to do this?

so I clicked on Yes ... and of course the file could not be found ...

can you help me out here?

thanks!

I don't know what version of the server extensions you're
running, except that it's the *wrong* version.

Uninstall what you have, then download and install the
version at:

It seems I recall reading about this issue several years ago. Had something
to do with the Personal Web Server being removed prior to uninstalling the
FrontPage server extensions from it. However, it's been so long since I
heard of it happening I can't recall how to resolve it.

I don't know how to tell what version server extensions - have looked but
can't find anything except the IIS says 5.1 and looks like this:

IIS
USER-WQ88***** (local computer)
+WebSites
Default Web Site
+ FTP Sites
+ Default SMTP Virtul Server

and then in the FPMMC the help says MMC 2.0 Version 5.1 (Build 2600
xpsp2030422-1633 - Service Pack 1) and reads as:

console Root
+FrontPage Server Extensions
+ USER-WQ88****
/LM/W3SVC/1:
iishelp
images
printers
+80
cgi-bin
icons
images

does this help at all????

I reall need some desperate help here

No. I'm not entirely sure what you have there, but it sounds as if you
somehow installed the old Microsoft Personal Web Server *and* the
version of IIS that comes with Win XP Pro.

I would have:

1. Installed Windows XP Pro.
2. Used Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components to install IIS.
3. Downloaded and installed the FrontPage Server Extensions from MSDN.
4. Installed XP Office and FrontPage.
5. Run Windows Update and accept everything.
6. Run Office Update and accept everything.

I presume you did something not on this list, involving an old version
of FrontPage or Microsoft Personal Web Server. If so, that was your
mistake and you should back it out.

well, I did exactly as you said except I didn't originally download the FP
SE from MSDN - I'm still having problems with FP though - I've updated as
much as I know how - and have reopened FP 2002 and opened my sites live and
then published them to localhost..then I open the site from localhost, and
try to publish to the internet - but it says that FP could not find a web
server at www.xxxx.com on port 80. Please check to make sure that the web
server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.

but when I click ok that goes away and it continues to upload and everything
looks fine - and to top it off..sometimes this message comes up - and
sometimes it doesn't ... can you help?

In that case, it sounds as if you have a slow or intermittent network
connection between your PC and your remote host. You would have to
pursue this through your network provider.
