I am having a problem with Internet Explorer 6.0. I have Windows Media Center 2004 on the computer. Whenever I view a page that uses the Java RTE program, Internet Explorer doesn't shutdown correctly. Internet Explorer is not running at all on my desktop, but when I hit ctrl+atl+del, it is shows as a running process under the processes list. It uses a lot of memory and when I start IE again, it shows another process. I have to kill the IEXPLORER process manually each time I exit the browser after using Java. If I don't, it keeps on accumulating, and ends up eating up all of my memory. Also, when I shutdown the computer, I get a message that Internet Explorer is not responding and I click End Now. I scanned my computer with AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Pest Patrol and this still happens. What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

Iexplorer.exe is from CoolWebSearch. (note the R in iexplore.exe)

You will need this removal tool.

The first two links you posted didn't work for me. What will be listed under processes if I have that trojan? I am pretty sure it says IEXPLORER.exe with the r. I have to check again. Thanks for the help!

Get the latest version of AdAware and spybot and run them again.
Get CoolWebsearch removal tool also.

If all fails get help from this forum.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip the Download file in a NEW FOLDER that you can create before you start
the download.
DO NOT install in your Desktop folder.
DO NOT use any of the TEMP folders that are presently in your computer.
Double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:

It is my bad. The process that is there is IEXPLORE.EXE, not
IEXPLORER.EXE. It was a mistake. I guess that is a different issue then.
