IEEE 1394 drive problem

I bought a new IEEE 1394 hardisk today. However, when i
plugged it in the "safely remove hardware" icon showed up
in the task bar and the device manager reported the drive
as working fine"no yellow exclamation marks".

However, the new drive letter does not show up when i
click on My computer. Please help. How do i access the
drive?

I'm using Windows XP.

Use disk management to format the new drive.
