IE7 only displays the Google home page

Paul Moore

Hello,

If I didn't know better, I'd think that Google is hijacking my PC ;<).
Irrespective of which web site I surf to, I can only reach the Google home
page.

During the installion of IE7 I got a message that the installation didn't
complete, and that I should perform a Windows update via IE7's
Tools->Windows Update option. When I tried this, the Google home page is
also displayed. Before updating to IR7, when I double-clicked on the the IE
icon, a shortcut was created, and right-clicking the icon didn't show the
"Open" option to allow the application to be launched.

I suppose that this also means that automatic updates are disabled. On my HP
box, whcih I attempt to update, I get the message that the Internet
connection isn't present.

Can anyone help? Many thanks,
Paul

Why don't IE7 users get their own dedicated newsgroup, just like IE5 and IE6
users? Why should we be relegated to a 'general' group?

You'd have to ask the IE team, I suppose.

I'm asking.

Maybe if we keep popping in here with our questions, do you think they'll
catch on? They don't seem to be very much on the ball with this.

No one from or representing Microsoft monitors these newsgroups, Joseph.

Really? That's news to me. Over the years, I've posted queries to many of
these newsgroups and from time to time I've been answered by Microsoft
representatives. Moreover, these groups are hosted on a microsoft server,
msnews.microsoft.com. Are you saying that Microsoft has no interest in its
own newsgroups?

Granted that these newsgroups are Microsoft PUBLIC groups there is no MS employees that sit on these groups for monitoring. The groups are peer to peer and you have many MS MVP,s in these groups that help the posters with their issues. They are not MS employees and they do not represent Microsoft. They are people that are chosen by other MVP's for their knowledge and given their title. This is all outside of Microsoft and in a way they are also peer to peer people. Granted that occasionally and I mean very occasionally you will have a MS employee take a peek in here and in other newsgroups but they do not interfere at all with any of the postings or suggestions that are posted.
Although MS sets up and opens newsgroups for specific groups like IE\5\6\7\ and different subjects it is manned by ordinary people like you and me and that includes MVP's.

/Some/ posts you see in the public newsgroups were originally posted using a
web-interface access available to MS Partners. The vast majority of
responses from Softies that you see are because the thread originated on the
Partner interface.

Otherwise, it's just about all peer-to-peer support here.

Then again, if you posted your IE7-specific question to IE General newsgroup
(the default for IE7 support), members of the IE team are known to drop in
there from time to time.
