IE7 only connects to secure site

Hi,
My friend Bob called me last week with a strange problem and asked for help,
but I'm clueless at this point. He's running XP professional and IE7 cat
5'ed to a router. He lost the ability to connect to regular websites. I
suggested he replace the Ethernet card in the PC and the cat5 cable which he
did, but that didn't help. It still only connects to secure websites. The
router is wireless and the laptop downstairs is working normally in that it
connects to all sites.
Any suggestions much appriciated.

1. Did he change the security settings in IE 7, say setting it
to High? Try setting it to Medium.
2. Did he change the proxy server settings in the browsers?
3. If he used only IE 7, then try installing Firefox and surf the net.
4. Did he install dangerous stuff lately, like Foxy?

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestions.
He just called a few minutes ago, and said its fixed. He un-installed Zone
Alarm and turned on XP's firewall, rebooted, and that fixed it. Its working
like it should.
Sorry I wasted you time with this.

I've heard that older versions of ZoneAlarm don't work with XP SP3.
The problem can be fixed by upgrading ZoneAlarm to the latest version.
