IE7 does not release memory correctly

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that IE7 is a memory pig. I often
have several browsers and several tabs open and have found that after some
time IE7 will not work properly. I wont even be able to call up the task
manager. I have to close all IE7 windows and then I can get the task
manager. When I call up task manager I see there is still sometimes seversl
instances of IE running and they are taking up tons of memory. Anyone else
hit this and if so, is there a way to fix it?

Weekdays, I have 6 IE7 windows open with 5-7 tabs each, in addition to 5-6
other programs with multiple windows (usually 8) open on one. I have never
had a problem with opening Task Manager, which I do every day, as all IE7
instances are assigned to one core and I assign them to the other core to
balance my load with my other programs. Otherwise, the one core hits 100%
periodically and hangs some functions. No similar problems to yours. Do
they show up in just processes and not in applications also? Have you tried
running a current virus scan?

I have run virus scans. I am absolutely positive it is IE7 because I dual
boot 2 hard drives. i has Windowx XP SP2 and the other has Vista Premium and
it happens for both systems. I have IE6 running on the kids computer with XP
por SP2 and there are no issues so this leaves me to believe it is a problem
with IE7 but I'm not sure if it is just IE7 or if it is because of the dual
boot. Considerint the other troubles people have with dual booting Vista and
XP (system restore points anyone) I can't rule it out. I have run all virus
scans, spyware scans and I run 2 firewalls (software and hardware) so I'm
pretty sure the computer is clean. As for the IE instances, they are all
seperate instances in both the application and process tabs. At somepoint, I
will get to about 100 mb of ram for each instance and thats when I lock up.
The only way to get into task manager at this point is to close IE windows
or tabs. I'm also wondering if it could be related to the indexing feature
or the thumbnail view but I have indexing shut off.

The amount of ram for each instance of IE is dependent on what is running in
the various tabs or windows if tabs are off. It would appear that the
websites are most likely the problem and don't run properly on IE7.
Indexing would make no difference. I had 1 java based window that used to
go crazy with the ram and cpu usage until they fixed it.
