I am probably in the wrong group, but I cannot find help
for IE6.
I tried to redownload IE6 because I am unable to do
anything and It says that I have a newer version of IE6
when I tried to download IE6 with the service pk. The
only thing that I've downloaded, or install is MSN. And
it says my browser is not compatable. I have gone to
other pages throughout the internet and It is telling me
the same thing. But the system says I have;
Version 6.0.2800.1106xpsp2.030422-1633 with 7 updates.

Where do I go to repair what ever is wrong???

Thank you;
I have found the instructions on uninstalling, followed
it to a tee. IE6 nolonger is in add/remove, but It is
still on my system.
Have tried everything in instructions, but part of it
will not remove.
Have tried to use the fix and the reinstall, but keep
getting the error " This system has a newer version,
install will terminate ".
How does one have a newer version than what is out
there?
Service packs will not delete.

Any help will be appreciated.
Dave

Please expand on "I am unable to do anything".

As to the incompatible browser error message, several of these are known to
cause problems:

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?] Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute" Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"

Note: "Win32" = Windows 98\ME Other versions = (compatible; MSIE 6.0;
Windows NT 5.0;)

CoolWebSearch Chronicles

Run these tools in the following order with nothing else running in
background:

1. CWShredder (fix all found)

2. Ad-Aware (fix all found)

3. Spybot (RTFM but generally fix everything in red)

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe) is the preferred
tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**

[Alternate download pages for many of the above tools may be found at
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

Also:

1. Download and run Stinger (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/); then...

2. Update your virus definitions, enable Show Hidden Files
(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2002092715262339)
and then run a full system scan in Safe Mode
(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)
with nothing else running in background. Note the files identified and
removed then find the corresponding page for the file at your AV maker's
online support pages (e.g.,
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.winfavorites.html)
and follow all Removal steps.

WinXP Only (WinME similar): If this scan finds anything, create a new
Restore Point then Disk Cleanup > More options > Delete all but the most
recent Restore Point.

3. Check in at Windows Update.

Again thank you;
I've not run off. I am following your lead. The only
security services we use are.
Norton Sysyem Works and Norton Internet security. It
took me quite awhile to learn the later, but I have it
set saftly.
The system worked just fine until I decided to try MSN.
First there was MSNS6, Then MSN8, AND Now MSN9. I tried
all their fixes and am paying for their premium service,
but It all started when I uninstalled AT&T and went with
Msn.

Please include previous message in your replies, Dave.

Running both NSW and NIS is overkill IMHO. For one thing, they both include
NAV.

Are you fully up-to-date at Windows Update?
