IE6, Yahoo and Some other sites

D

Dave Ferguson

Recently, for no apparent reason, my computer intermittently freezes up when
I go to My Yahoo site (which I have gone to several times a day for several
years with no problems). It also hangs when I go to a few other sites, but
not all of them and not 100% of the time.
The only common denominator that I can find is that the sites all seem to
have a lot of animated banner adds, buttons that change appearance on
mouse-over, etc.
I can not think of any changes that I have made in my computer that would
have caused this problem.
Anyone have any thoughts on this matter?
I re-installed Flash Player and Shockwave Player in case one of them is
corrupted. No luck there, and unfortunately it is hard to trouble shoot
because their site is one of the ones that causes the computer to freeze.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave,
The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).

Yup,
I had already done all of that. I check for those things on a very regular
basis, and last week went through the entire process with ad-aware and
hijack this.
No help.

Yeah, I did post it and I think the user name is DeeBeeEff.
I removed two recommended BHOs at the time, and then I just removed a couple
more a couple of days ago.
However, I did several things today that may have solved the problem. (As
usual, I did them without checking after each one, so I don't know which one
was the problem.)
1) I moved my TIF file and made it smaller and eliminated a whole bunch of
cookies that I didn't need anymore. I am pretty good about blocking cookies,
but there were still more than I wanted.
2) As part of this, I also deleted a whole bunch of allowed cookies in my
privacy folder.
3) The third thing I did, and this may be the key, is I looked at my objects
file - (Internet Options - Settings - View Objects) - and I noted that two
of the objects were relatively new and dated right around the time the
problem started. One was for party poker, which prolly was not the problem.
The other one, however, was a shockwave flash object. And oddly enough, all
of the pages I seemed to be having problems with used shockwave/flash
extensively.
Anyway, I deleted both of these objects, went to a couple of the sites that
had the problem, and so far, so good.
My question for you is: what are these object files and what harm occurs in
deleting ones that I don't think I need?
Well, I hope this solved my problem. You'll hear from me if it doesn't.
Thanks,
Dave

Nevermind - whatever I did was not the solution. I am beginning to think
that my problem is hardware related, but I am lost where to find it.

Dave,
There is no lasting affects from "properly" removing "Downloaded Program
Files (objects)
Start by deleting your cache files\folders ....
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Next try the obvious things first .........
Uninstall your Firewall, reboot then reinstall .....
Do the same for your AV ...... see if that helps ....
