IE6 with two gateways

We have two internet routers. We use static IPs, so neither router is
running DHCP. I can specify either router in my TCP/IP properties, and
internet works normally.

Router #1 has a router-to-router VPN setup for our remote location. I would
like to direct non-VPN internet traffic through router #2.

Help me out here, but I think that can be done with the proxy server
settings in IE6. My plan is to put Router #1 in as the gateway in TCP/IP
properties. Then put router #2 in as a proxy server in IE6. There are a few
web pages only available internally through the VPN, so they should be listed
in the bypass-proxy-server area.

Not sure what should go in the port setting. I tried 8080.

None of the above works. When I put the address of router #2 in as a proxy
server, nothing works. Obviously, I don't understand something. Is this a
correct use of the proxy server settings?

Basically, I'd like to have two gateways, and use one for local addresses
(through the router's VPN), and the other gateway for everything else.
Running some PCs with XP Home, and most with XP Pro, if that makes any
difference. One router is a Cisco, the other is a Linksys.
