IE6 cannot find internet after yahoo antispy was run

Win ME with IE6 SP1

Installed yahoo toolbar and ran antispy. on reboot could
not connect to internet or to router. Cannot find server
message.

Going through linksys router. I can ping the router, DNS
server and sites like www.yahoo.com & www.microsoft.com
from the MS-DOS command prompt so I know the connection
actually exists. Now Norton NAV & Firefox cannot connect
either.

All local (P2P) network functions are working normally
and other PC's (Win XP) can access internet normally.

Checked and reset DNS settings. gateway is correct WINS
is off. IP, subnet mask & gateway all look OK

Tried to reistall iE6 but install failed.

Tried to use 2 different restore points but both failed.

Am I missing something simple or is ME/IE6 totally
locked? Is it IE6 or something else?

Any ideas ????

problem is resolved:

FYI it was winsock 2 problem

ran LSPfix from

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

did not fix problem but pointed me to a winsock2 repair
utility at:

http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/winsock2fix.html

which did finally work
