IE6 will not complete reinstall

I did the edit registry thing to reinstall IE6 and when I
started to run IE6setup, it doesn't complete the install
because I get an error stating this software has not been
proven compatible with windows XP logo. I downloaded the
IE setup from windows. I'm running window xp pro on a
sony viao GRX600p notebook. When I use the browser, the
text overlaps the frames o"n web pages and doesn't show
any "background" pictures on web sites.
Any Help??

Have you tried a repair of IE?
