Ie6 What caused it?

Over the last couple of days there have been hundreds of
questions about Ie6 hanging,really slow to load pages etc.
Pretty much know it was scumware of some kind ,but can
anybody tell me what actually caused it
I and I bet a whole heap of others would be interested

Some software you downloaded brought the scumware with it. Sometimes just
visiting some pages can do this, depending on your security settings.
