IE6 takes ages to open

Hi

My friend has a problem with IE6.

After clicking any IE6 icon or link minutes can go by before the browser
window opens.

We've done a spyware scan and removed anything found and also used PC Tools
registry mechanic to clean up reg errors.

But still the problem with IE6 remains.

I don't know if this may be relevant to the above, but Control panel takes
ages to open too and when it does all the icons are very widely spaced out.

I've read a few web pages referring to a repair option for IE6 via internet
tools but I cant find either of these anywhere in add/remove progs/windows
components.

His PC is running XP HE SP2.

I'd appreciate any tips on how to do a repair or removal and reinstall of
IE6.

Thanks for your time and any info.

Before he tries anything drastic, he should first run scandisk to see if
his hard disk has become corrupted. That fixed a similar problem on one
of my PCs recently. I realised the disk was corrupted when it couldn't
find an installed program. Ask him also to check if the disk light is on
continuously while he's waiting for IE to load. HTH
