IE6 sp2: how to Reload?

B

BDH

Original problem: XP Home computer filled with spy/adware. Ran Spybot SD,
AdAware HiJack this to remove the nasty stuff. Somehow must have killed
something in IE 6 sp2. It does all kinds of weird things, reports wrong
version etc.

When I try to re-install (IE sp1) download from MS, it detects newer version
and won't install. Tried a MS IE 6sp1 CD, same "newer version" issue. I
can't seem to find a complete install of IE SP2 to load. Tried resetting all
settings in IE to default, no help.

How can I do a re-install to fix whatever is missing/broken/messed up?

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, select Windows components and
remove then reinstall Internet explorer. (May require reboot in between.)

Hi,
You should uninstall the SP2 update first:
875350 - How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;875350

Then try IEFix from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#Reinstall This will
try to reinstall IE from the INF files which *may* be on your hard disk. If
it works, it will be quick and easy.

Next:

Hope this helps,
