I've been using IE6 for over a year with XP Home. I
installed SP1 for IE6 some time ago. Throughout it all,
the browser has worked fine. Then about a week and a half
ago, after I had installed the latest IE6 security
patch/update, the browser started to close down
unexpectedly and repeatedly. It gives me the
message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
must close down. We are sorry for any inconvenience."
When I click on the more information links, it tells me
that the problem is probably related to a web site, a
plug-in, or some other program. Another link tells me
that MicroSoft is aware of the problem but unfortunately
has nothing to fix it at the moment. In desperation, I
uninstalled the recent security patch. I haven't had a
chance to see if this solved the problem. Anyone out
there experience the same problem and have any ideas as
to how to correct it? I'm thinking about downloading
Netscape if I can't get this to work without conking out
on me when I'm in the middle of a download or some other
important work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just fixed similar behaviour on a PC infested with dialers/spyware, try
running Ad-Aware with a current reflist file, it might clear it up for
