ie6 sp1 disk full error error

BOB

1. I encountered a valid disk full error installing IE6
SP4.
2. I made more space (300MB) on hard disk.
3. But still get the same disk full error, requesting the
same 14MB more.

4. I ran: clean hard disk, check disk, and defragment,
but still get the same error.

5. Why does Update require 429,543,865 KB of disk space?
Where can I find a hard drive this big (429 GB)?

6: "There is not enough disk space to install Internet
Explorer. Once installation is complete Windows Update
will only require 429,543,865 KB of disk space, but to
complete the process an additional 14000 KB of space is
needed. This space will become available again after
Windows Update Setup has completed. You need to
have '429557865'KB free on drive C.

Have you checked your compact files box in your disk cleanup? I keep mine at "20" days. This should give you more room. Also do you have a disk cleanup utility such as "SYSTEM MECHANIC"? If you get rid of junk files this too will help. Also a big user of disk space is duplicate files. System Mechanis has a tool to remove those as well. Get rid of any programs you are not using...carefully..run disk cleanup again and this should help.

Thank you for your answer.
1. I have checked the "Old compressed files" but I could
not find the "compact files box" in the disk cleanup.
Also I could not find the reference to keeping 20 days in
the disk cleanup. I do however keep the Internet tool
option history to only "1" day.
2. Is "System Mechanic" a Microsoft Windows utilitis? Do
I still need the System Mechanic if I currently have 3.7
GB free space on my drive?
3. How does other people manage if they don't have 429 GB
of free disk space which is being requested by the error
message?
4. I have also encountered w2k sp4 installation failure.
No reason is given, but I suspect more disk space may be
required.
