IE6 sometimes very slow

I am using Win 98 & IE6 on an IBM Thinkpad 600E. Sometimes
pages open very quickly, other times there is quite a
lengthy "pregnant pause" before the page opens. Any ideas
as to what is causing this & how I can fix it. Thanks.
