IE6 Pop Up's when browser is closed

B

Bill

I use Windows XP, installed over Windows ME. I ordinarily
use Mozilla 1.5 as my primary browser and email program. I
use IE6 when certain applications don't function correctly
with Mozilla. One day, about a week ago, out of the clear
blue sky, pop up windows began opening in IE6, for no
apparent reason. I have tried updating my AV program
(System Suite 4.0) and running it, to no avail. I had to
change the Security setting to "High", and the Privacy
setting to "Block All Cookies" to get it to stop opening up
window after window. This seems to be a good band-aid, but
I am looking for the cause, and the cure. If anyone can
help, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Perform the following:

Symantec Security Check

Download and run this spyware removal tool:

Install the free Google Toolbar (eliminates pop-ups):

To secure your computer and prevent future security breeches,
consider installing a first-rate internet security program:

go to www.aumha.org
click on "parasite scanner" on the left column.
the next page will run a program that detects browser hijackings (which can
deliver pop ups). It will list all the problems you have with your browser.
To remove these run ad-aware and Spybot.

You probably have some type of SPYWARE on your machine.
Try something like Ad-aware. Usually you can find it on Download.com.
There are many..many other software packages that perform the same function
so pick the one that best fits your needs.

Thank you
