IE6 not recognized by MS

Dan

Latest of all uploads (auto-update) to Win 2K Pro and IE6 patches/bug
fix/service packs etc. etc. etc.
Now MS site tells me to load a newer version of IE.
IE6 and all updates ARE installed. Regedit shows/lists IE 6.

Getting really upset over this, locked me out of MS the Zone first, and
checking for updates says all are current & I don't need any?

"Browser not supported" error:

<paste>
Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]
"User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"

Note: "Win32" = Windows 98\ME
Other versions = (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)

I did do item 8 as suggested, although it rests under
[HKEY_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] Items 1, & 3 thru 7 are not applicable. Although everything
(existing configuration & software) worked fine (IE 5) prior to the update
to version 6, I did have to disable Norton System Works 2004 under version
6. I know have access to the zone..................Thanks for the
pointers.......................
