W2k/IE6 Browser instances crash/burn

Greetings,

I'm new here. Am I in the right forum?

I've been commonly (every day) running 2-10 IE6 browser instances
on a little desktop W2k sp4 system for years.

In recent weeks, I get IE6 errors that close some or all instances.
Sometimes the IE6 exit box offers the option to send an error report
to MS,
sometimes not. No offending module (i.e. xyz.dll) is referenced.

I am currently IE6.0.2800.xxx.

Could one of the MS auto-updates in recent weeks have buggered my
lil' IE6? :-(

Any/all info/suggestions etc much appreciated.

Cheers,
Puddin'

Yes, a security update released on August 8 appears to be the culprit
for many.

Turn off the auot updates, download IE6 SP1 and reinstall it again
(tell it to reinstall all components). Your computer should tell you
that updates are available and you should apply them all except the
cumulative security update that is probably the first one listed -- go
to the details at the link provided and see if it is the one dated
August 2006. Don't install it.

Aha. The "Masters Of Softy-Ware Engineering" strike again!
Turn off the auot updates,

It wasn't on full auto. Notifyed me but didn't let me pick/choose.
Auto is now turned off.

AAAAAAaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!
999.99 mb just for the download? :_0
Does the po' bedraggled user have to uninstall IE6 first?
Does the download install as it downloads?
Etc, etc.

Damnnation! They really super-buggered virtually all the W2k/IE6's?
What about XP/IE6?

Is there any easier way??

Thanks,
