Good luck

many of these fixes are for older versions of IE.

the only fix applicable to my situation involved a registry key hack:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage

but it failed to say which VALUE (THERE ARE DOZENS) needed changing.

More stupidity and frustration engendered by a BLOATED OPERATING SYSTEM that
is -hopefully - sure to be replaced by Linux, as more and more of its users
get raked over the coals by spending half their life trying to fix
Microsoft's stupidity.
