IE6 & MSN browser problem, update download problem

BlankOk, here is a multiple browser problem. Like many others , IE6 does not open links because the address doesn't appear in the address bar. Most times, if I hit stop and then refresh, I can get the site. If it is a window without those features, like a pop up window, forget it.

I also have MSN Explorer, which encounteres as error every time I open it. I haven't been able to use it in months. Have resorted to Netscape Navigator.

When using windows update. IE shows the updated I need and the accept\don't accept small window comes up fine, but the small download window shows no progress. When I cancel, IE6 encounters an error and closes, then reopens.

I have check .dlls and all are there. I have on my machine W98SE, MOfc 2000, Frontpage2002,. I do remember that one of the last updates was what I thought was only a WXP update, but it appears to only affect Frontpage.

I need a solution. I have a business and I liked MSN Explorer. Right now, my only recourse to connect to the internet is with a new connection I set up,.

1. You click on a hyperlink and an IE window doesn't even open:

Go to View | Folder Options | File Types in Windows Explorer and check the
values for URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol (click edit, open, edit). The
values should read:

application:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

NOTE: The above applies to Win9x. For WinMe, Win2000, and WinXP, use Tools |
Folder Options or Control Panel | Folder Options to access the file types.
Then edit the OPEN action for the file type. The actual values specified
above are the same for each Operating System.

If you find that the above process is set correctly, and you still have
problems, then go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

and see if that fixes the problem.

2. You click on a hyperlink and an IE window opens but it doesn't load:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click a Link

Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-effect. Check in at Windows Update.

And the error would be...?

BlankThe error message I get when microsoft update download progress window does not respond and when canceled says: Appl name: iexplore.exe, Appl Ver: 6.0.2800.1106, Mod Name: rpcrt4.dll., Offset: 00042460

Exception info: Code :Oxc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000, Record: 0x0000000000000000, Address: 0x0000000070142460

I noticed that some of the modules had different versions between the file version and the prod version:

Module 10
MFC42.DLL file vs: 6.0:86650, prod vs: 6.0:4.0
Module 18
SCHANNEL.DLL file: 4.87:1964.1878 Prod:5.0:1878.13
Module 26
file: 3.0: 8449.01 Prod: 6.0: 0 0.8449
Module 32
MSLS31.DLL
file: 3.10: 349.0 Prod: 3.10:0.0
Module 56
NETBIOS.DLL
NO SIG, ETC.
Module 60
SSSENSOR.DLL
NO SIG, ETC
Module 62
YCOMP5_1_3_0.DLL
file: 2003.3:5.1 Prod: 5.0:0.0

I don't know if this is relevant.

As far as the regsvr32 I checked the following: Mshtml.dll, Actxprxy.dll, url.mon.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Shdocvw.dll, Msjava.dll, Browseui.dll and they are ok.

As far as url.dll,,,I got this message: url.dll was loaded but the Dll Registry Server entry pt was not found. Dll Registry Server may not be exported or a corrupt vs of the url.dll may be in the memory. Consider using Pview to detect and remove.

The same message showed for shell32.dll....although it is not supposed to be relevant to W98SE.

Internet Explorer Problem: suggested looking in Windows Exp, View, Folder Options, URL Hypertext Transfer Protocols:

I have two :
1st one show opens with NETSCP
application used: "C:\Progra~\NETSCAPE\NETSCAPE\NETSCP.EXE-URL"%1"
Did not have DDE checked
Description of type : URL-Hpertext Transfer Protocol with Privacy

2nd on shows open with NETSCP
application used: SAME AS 1ST ONE
Did not have DDE checked
Description of type: URL-Hypertext Transfer Protocol

I did find URL:Gopher Protocol with the settings you described with DDE checked and proper settings.

What are your suggestions now.
