IE6 Is Slow

CNS

We're running IE6 with everything updated on Windows 98SE.
Pages load fast, the status bar says "Done," and the
progress bar will hang in the full position for a period
of a few seconds to a period of minutes. During this time
that the progress is still there, the system is hung. One
can't scroll down the page or click links. I have run Ad-
aware, but this is still happpening. Can anyone help?
Thank you for you trouble.

Ad-Aware won't catch everything.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I am having exactly the same problem. I spent an hour
online with the DSL help desk, and all of the speed tests
were fine, they said it was the browser. But now I do not
know how to fix the browser. Any help would be
appreciated.

Frank,

Thanks for the tips. I'll put them into action. I did find something
last night that I hope is a help to people. I disabled "Enable
third-party browser extensions (requires restart)" in the Internet
Tools Advanced section. It speeded things back up, but I am worried
that it might interfere with things you want, such as Symantec and
Microsoft updaters. Does anyone know about this?

Thanks,

CNS

It won't interfere with Symantec or Windows Update, but it will interfere
with add-in toolbars and Adobe Reader (and a whole bunch of spyware).

Clean your computer you have malware on it.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
