IE6 can't load pages

IE6 / XP SR2
For the past few weeks IE6 has been having intermittent problems loading
pages. At least 2-3 times a day I will have intervals of 3-10 minutes
when I try to load a page (e.g., www.accuweather.com)and IE seems to
'work' at finding the page. However, after about a minute it times out
with a message about the page can't be loaded.
During this period when IE can't load web pages, I can still
send/receive email so I think the problem is not in the link from IE

router > cable modem > ISP.

Any ideas what is causing this problem in IE?
Any ideas how to troubleshoot the problem?

I have been having the same problem! It is most commonly a problem when
clicking on links, as opposed to typing in an address "from scratch".
