IE6 hangs in w2k

I have had to reinstalled w2k. Somewhere after installing IE6 SP1 and getting
automatic updates, IE6 begins to hang. The weird thing is that it will go to
a secure web site. i.e.; https:// but; it hangs and will not load an
unsecured web site. i.e.; http://. This includes any Microsoft web site.

When used from my home page, a page I made and have been using for 2 years,
I have noticed that the status bar displays the url to whatever link I hover
over. It continues to display the url after I select the link, but; when I
move the cursor the status bar displays "Downloading from site: file://" then
it gives the url of my homepage.

If I hover over and click on a link on another web page on my PC, it
continues to display the url until I move the cursor. It then displays,
"Done" The icon in the upper right of IE spins on it's merry way and will
continue to do so until I either click on Stop or close the browser.

Some of my apps depend on IE to work. i.e.; Avast! WU...

Any help will be appriciated.

I'd like to thank everyone in the IE6 community for their overwhelming number
of replies. Your response was juat as good as Microsoft itself, 0!

Not to worry though. I have been using Microsoft products every since CPM.
Oh excuse me, DOS 1.0. I have found Microsoft to always be updating and
improving a product to it's next iteration before it ever fixes problems in
the old products. somehow the old problems never go away.

My fix, for my problem, is simple. Switch to another OS and app :}

It is sooo easy when you finally get fed up.
And you know, Linux is really easier to setup and run.

BTW: Moderator, you may wish to remove this post before anyone actually gets
to read it.
