IE6 hangs and stops responding

IE6 hangs and stops responding when I click certain links on the NBC Olympic
site.
Esp. the links along the left side of the home page.
I noticed "doubleclick" appears in the text in the status bar when this
happens, I wonder...
I haven't noticed this behavior with any other site yet.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Edd,

I visited the site nbcolympics.com and tried to reproduce your problems but
I could not. I noticed that click a link on the left hand side (say
snowboarding) would point to nbcolympics.com/snowboarding/index.html, but
that there seemed to be a redirect at that page to ad.doubleclick.com and
then a redirect back to the index page! They must be tracking ad impressions
on their pages!

Since your browser is crashing and mine did not I can only assume that
either your browser secuirity settings or your firewall settings (if you
have one) don't like this redirecting. Usually firewall software also blocks
unwanted advertising and since the redirect is to ad.doubleclick.com it is
probably detecting the 'ad' part of the domain name and blocking it!
Otherwise you could try setting your Internet zone security setting to
Meduim (default). If you have the MS anti-phissing add-in it may also be
causing havoc with such a site.

Had same problem with double click
so added "127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net" to hosts
and no more trouble.

Thanks Will.
I have a sample hosts file, where is it supposed to go?

The file to be updated - C:\winnt\systems32\drivers\etc\hosts - is a text file
So just add an entry that looks like this at bottom...

127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net
