IE6 Font Size Inconsistency

Tosca

Hello everyone

I have XP Pro SP2 and noticed that the font size of www.google.com became
very small about 4 hours ago. A similar change occurred on a banking site
that I access. All of the other internet sites that I visit show normally.
I checked Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility and then checked
"Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages" and, whilst it improved the
appearance, neither Google nor the banking site look as they did last night.
I've not made any changes to the registry, GP Editor or downloaded any
software recently. I have McAfee and it downloaded a virus update about 10
hours ago, well before I noticed the problem and I had accessed Google
shortly following the virus update. I've run Spybot and AdAware (zilch) and
these, in conjunction with my AV, make me think that I don't have any
malware that's accounting for this behaviour. I've rebooted and it's made
no difference.

Finally, I use Outlook Express to view the Newsgroups and noticed that the
main page which opens when I launch the software has larger font now -
presumably because of the setting that I changed in IE6.

This is perplexing! Anyone have any idea what's happened and how I can
resolve it?

Thanks for your time and patience.

Hi Tosca - Check this - In IE6 Tools|Internet Options|General|Languages, be
sure that English (United States) [en-us] is selected.

Hold down the Ctrl key and turn the mouse wheel?

Hi Jim

The language is set to English <(United Kingdom) [en-gb]>, as it has been
from installation.

I don't use a mouse. I have a laptop with a Touch Pad and two mouse
"buttons" just in front of it.

Did you check the setting at IE>view>text size?

Does IE-View-Text Size change after you set it?

If IE-View-Text Size does not stick....

---solution 1
If you are using Eudora 4.2 or greater then use Tools-Options-Viewing
Mail and uncheck "Use Microsoft's viewer"
It is Eudora that is setting the IE text size and unchecking that
option will stop it.

The key that Eudora 4.x will change is this:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\International\Scripts\3]
"IEFontSize"=hex:02,00,00,00

---solution 2
In Outlook 2000 go to Tools/Options/Mail Format/Fonts/International
Fonts, and for each font
change the "Font Size" entry to your desired size.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Everything's resorted to normal!

This is infuriating as I don't know what caused the problem in the first
place - so I don't know how to prevent it recurring.
