IE Font Problem

S

Sara

Through Windows Update, I installed IE7. I unchecked Clear Type fonts
in Advanced Settings and then set the font in General > Fonts to Arial
from Times New Roman. These are the only settings I changed.

I decided I didn't like IE7 so I uninstalled it and reverted back to
IE6.

In IE6, my setting to change all fonts to Arial was maintained. I do
not like this because I have a few webpages that are coded with
different fonts and I want to see them.

I looked at Accessibility and all check boxes are unchecked. General >
Fonts is Latin Based, Arial (web) / Courier New (plain text).

Bottom line: I want it to accept the font size of the webpage, and
stop automatically showing all fonts in Arial.

Thank you very much for help.

Hi Sara,
Did you tried to click on Accessibility under general Tab and see if any box
checked there like:
[ ] Ignore colors specified on web pages
[ ] Ignore font styles specified on web pages
[ ] Ignore fot size specified on web pages
and if you have been using CSS style sheet try to uncheck this option under
User style sheet.
HTH.
Let us know.

Thank you for your response. As I stated in my original posting, there
are no checkmarks in any of the Accessibility options.

Thank you nass. I tried your suggestions and the problem is still not
fixed. Do you have any other suggestions? A word on the font of the
webpage(s) I'm referring to - there isn't anything unusual about the
font, it's just Tahoma.

Thank you.

Hi sara,
Bear in mind if you didn't declare the font in a style tag/sheet, IE will
open it in it's default font.
Try this: Open the Windows Explorer and click on Tools>> Folder Options .
On the Folder Options settings winodw click on File Types Tab and scroll
down till you find FON

[A] FON and click on Advanced button, on the new window you will see Under
Actions:
Open
Print
Select Open and click [ Edit ] Button on the Right side.
On Open setings under Action:
[Open ]

Application used to perform action:
[ C:\WINDOWS\System32\fontview.exe %1 ]

[ ] Use DDE
DDE Message:
[ leave empty ]

Application:
[fontview ]

DDE Application Not Runing
[ Leave Empty ]
Topic:
[ System ]

= Click on Print and see if this values is there:
Action:
Print
Application used to perform action:
[ C:\WINDOWS\System32\fontview.exe /p %1 ]

[ ] Use DDE
DDE Message:
[ leave empty ]

Application:
[fontview ]

DDE Application Not Runing
[ Leave Empty ]
Topic:
[ System ]

Close it and Reboot your machine and see if your pages willshow thier true
font.
If still no joy, open the registry editor by open a run command and type:
regedit.exe
and locate these Keys:
[-] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.fon =

Name Type Value
[ab] ( Default) REG_SZ fonfile

[-] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\fonfile =
[ab] (Default) REG_SZ Font File
[ON] EditFlags REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (0)

Expand the folder to see these set of subfolders:
[-] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\fonfile
[-]DefaultIcon
[] Command =
[ab](Default) REG_EXPAND_SZ
%SystemROOT%\System32\Shell32.dll,-155

[-]Shell
[-]Open
[] Command=
[ab](Default) REG_EXPAND_SZ
%SystemRoot%\System32\fontview.exe %1

[-]Print
[]Command=
[ab] (Default) REG_EXPAND_SZ
%SystemRoot%\System32\fontview.exe /p %1

Close the Registry and Reboot your machine and this time will work, if not
try to run this comand as last resort : sfc /scannow.

I would try changing both the fonts and the accessibility options
to find out the scope of the problem. E.g. if you change both
do you at least start seeing the end of Arial? If you then turn off
the Accessibility options but leave a different font specified
do you then see the problem symptom with a new font in place of Arial?
Etc.

BTW you might also be lucky. As a result of this sort of diagnostic
procedure all the extra bit flipping is often enough to make some
apparently "stuck" ones become "unstuck". ; }

Good luck

Thank you Nass and Robert,

Last night I was getting rather frustrated that I couldn't figure this
out and started tooling around in the registry per the suggestion of
some websites I visited.

I broke IE. :D I decided to reformat, since it was loooong overdue to
do so. I figured since I broke IE, now might be a good time.

A little overkill, yes. But I am definitely saving these tips just in
case I do this again!

Thank you,

Sara
