IE6 drops when loading secure sites

I have satellite internet service through direcway which
is networked through my husbands computer. He is not
having any trouble at all. I can get on the internet just
fine, but if I try to access a secure site, IE freezes
while loading. I am no longer on the internet and to get
back on, both my husband and I have to restart our
computers. (He still is not having any trouble but has to
restart so I can get back on the internet.) I have tried
temporarily disabling my security but this does not help.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to help? We both have XP
Home version.

I tried all That I could from the site you sent me to. I
still have the same problem. I can't go to system restore
because the problem started when I upgraded my Windows 98
to XP. (So I would have to go back to when I had 98.) I
upgraded everthing else that I could. I have no viruses
according to McAfee. Today I tried to go to a gov. web
site which was not a secure site and the same problem
happened as when trying to go to a secure site. Oh, I also
have the problem even if I disable all of McAfee.
Any other guesses? It looks like other people are having
the same problem. Jerri

Check the system for "hijackware":

These days most of us are recommending HijackThis to identify and assist in
the removal of these bad guys. **Post your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, not here.**

NB: If you have ever downloaded HijackThis or CWShredder, it is urgent that
you upgrade to the latest versions before using them again. Due to a new
variant of the CWS Trojan, using either HijackThis or CWShredder on an
infected Win98 or WinME computer may lead to severe damage to that computer.
You must update to the very newest versions of these programs before using
either of them again, and you should get a new copy of CWShredder before
each and every use.

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
Thanks for your help again. I got rid of suspicious stuff
in my computer and sent my files from HijackThis to
spywareinfo forums. Nothing found there and still have a
problem. The person there told me to check my popup ad
removal software which I removed. When I tried to go to a
secure site this time it went to "This page can not be
displayed" before freezing and dropping the internet
connection. I do have XP firewall but not my McAfee
firewall. Any other suggestions? Jerri

Your thread at SpywareInfo Forum:
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=16945&hl=jerri

1. Uninstall Yahoo Companion and see if it helps.

2. You give further details about the problem in the forum post: "My husband
must restart his computer if I am to get back on the internet."

Have you tried removing the network from the equation and seeing if the
problem continues?

Have you check his machine for hijackware?
