IE6 does not allow access to HTTPS:

Richard

Usually we get Page Not Found, sometimes, though rarely it's You Are not
Authorised, after being notified that we are moving to a secure site.

Taking that as a suggestion that there are corrupted or missing
certificates I went to look. They are all listed there but when I tried
to "View" one off the list IE shut down.

How do I fix this please?

Richard,
I have the very same problem here under XP Pro SP1.
Furthermore, I have created a new profil but the problem remains. IE 6.0
SP1 won't allow access to HTTPS site.

Please let me know if you get the fix.

Thanks

Internet Expl. Tools/Internet Options/Advanced scroll down to SSL2.00 SSL3.0
TLS etc... make sure they are ticked.

Certainly. Glad to know I'm not alone on this one.

Not so far. The site Eric mentioned was highly informative and I
downloaded both the programs mentioned there but the problem still
remains. How a bout you?

A complete re-install just to make sure that all files are as they
should be is looking ominously necessary... something I really hesitate
to do. As it is, there's also a problem with starting in safe mode as
administrator rather than owner [who has full rights anyway] so
tomorrow, Saturday, I'll be doing a recovery first, and if that doesn't
solve things it'll be a full install. <Sigh>

Sorry to follow up my own post...

I don't know if I mentioned it but not only would the IE6 not access
secure sites - I discovered that on checking the certificates, if I
tried to "view" one IE shut down.

Doing a recovery to straighten things out didn't work.

Doing a complete re-install DID.
