ie6 causes system to crash

I get a failed to respond. When I try to end the program nothing happens.
I have an HP Pavilion a600y and the only way to get out of this condition is
to pull the plug. A very horrible solution. There is no reset. Please
help. I can be in the ie6 for only a short time when this happens. Any
suggestions?
