When I try to load my site or the site of the host for my
site I get an HTTP 404 Not Found message. I have pop3
accounts on the same server and am getting an error
message and can't get my mail...only on this computer.
Started two days ago...have always accessed it from this
pc. I have direcway, so I spent hours with them...but it
isn't their problem. I can't get it to load on a dial up
either. My host said it was probably an DNS error. I've
cleared all history, cookies, temp files, downloaded
files, etc. This happened once before and then just "went
away" the next time I rebooted. Not this time. I have
SP1 and my XP updates are all installed. Running Norton.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. This is
making me crazy. Thank you.

Bonnie, if you have downloaded some recent windows updates, see this:

Critical Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB831167)
Download size: 378 KB, < 1 minute
An identified issue may cause errors when Internet Explorer attempts to
renew a connection to a server. You should apply this update if you begin to
receive errors connecting to websites after you have applied the KB832894
security update to Internet Explorer. After you install this item, you may
need to restart your computer. Read more...
Hope this helps....

Thanks much, Capt. I have installed Windows updates
(regularly)so I just installed both of these updates.
Still no cigar. I don't think I had installed anything
between the time it worked (the 10th) and when it stopped
working (the 11th), but I did a system restore just in
case. Then I went back and scanned for updates and made
sure that all was kosher.

I've run a virus scan (I use intelligent updater daily)
and Spysweeper and Adaware.

This is really puzzling. I've searched the 'Net and
Microscoft. I've done everything that made sense...still
I can't get to just these three sites (my webhost, and my
two sites). I can get to them on several other pcs (at
the office and home). Go figure.

Thanks again, and if you think of anything else I can try,
I'm all ears.

Bonnie,

Poster Upsdell reported a similar problem accessing the Microsoft
home page was cured by uninstalling his Google toolbar.
