Jennifer
I have posted this, then I get a question back, then I
respond on "Reply," but do not get a resolutioon. I am
sending the entire string of emails below:
When I began to update my browser, the instructions were
to go to "Add/Remove Programs" and delete the IE, but the
name of the program was different than the actual one
showed in my list. The one listed displayed was IE with a
series of numbers (about 5 or 6), which I did delete.
Then during installation, I received the
message: "...most recent version is already
installed...recommend exit without reinstalling." I made
several attempts, by choosing "Yes," then "No." Then I
always received the message, "Setup cannot continue,
because files are missing from the installation
directory. Please run setup again and choose "Resume
Setup. This will install the missing files and continue
setup." Instead I got the message "Setup was unable to
install all of the components. Please close all
applications and try running Setup again."
Choosing "okay" automatically rebooted my computer.
These messages continued to appear, regardless of which
option I chose. All I was able to accomplish was going in
circles and causing my pc to reboot. Upon starting my pc,
these messages continued to appear.
What I find strange is that even after deleting the one IE
program that appeared on my "Add/Delete" list, the IE
icons still function.
Help, please!

Hi Jennifer did the control panel add remove show Internet
Explorer Q831167? if it did you only uninstalled the SP1
part of Internet Explorer. Go back to Windows and do an
update if you are not on automatic, even if you are,
download the SP1 again, which if you are not on Broadband
will take some time. Do you also have XP as your system
you didn't say? I am not sure but I dont think you can
uninstall Internet Explorer as it is part of the windows
setup, all you can do is disable it in the windows
components on the left hand side of add remove and that
will stop it being used and also remove the I/E icon from
your desktop.
..
Sorry, I do not remember and I did not make a note of the
numbers that followed IE on my "Add/Remove" list.
However, my desktop icons were not deleted, so perhaps it
only deleted SP1. Yes, I am on automatic, but I wanted to
download again, because I was experiencing some problems.
My system is ME.
I just went back to the download site and got all three
messages again that I have gotten repeatedly. It just
won't continue when I select either start over or resume.
Hope this clarifies. Thanks.
