IE6 cache location gone and size set to 0

Hi. I'm using WinXPPro and IE6 on an IBM ThinkPad T40
Centrino. Regularly, my CPU usage goes to 100% (and stays
there) as soon as I open IE. Then I noticed that if I go
to "Internet Explorer Properties > Internet Properties >
General > Temporary Internet Files Settings", "Current
Location" has disappeared, and the "Amount of disk space"
has changed to zero". Trying to change it back to, say
24MB, it then comes up with an error saying it must be
between 0 and 1. Also, if I try to "Move Folder...", no
matter which folder I pick it returns an error saying
there isn't enough space in that location. If I reboot,
XP behaves ok, until I open IE, when the CPU usage goes
to 100% again.

I have run chkdsk, defrag, deleted temp files, searched
the KB, and can't figure this out. Can you help?
Thanks!
