IE6 attempts to open DNS address

I run Windows XP Pro and have all service packs installed.

I can reach any web site and any page within that site.

However, if I decide to go back to a particular page (in
the same session) IE6 attempts to seek the DNS number of
the site and I obtain a blank page.

This continues, after this, even when I retry the
original page!

The whole thing works OK again after a reboot BUT then
the same thing happens again.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation...but I'm a novice!
