IE6 and Outlook Express

I don't understand the relation between IE6 and Outlook Express. I have
assumed that IE6 always includes Outlook Express (in the same way as Mozilla
has its own email client), but when I started to look for it on my own
computer I cannot find it. In Internet options\programs\email I only finf
Thunderbird. So, how can I get Outlook Express? Since my version of IE6 seems
to be the highest, 6.0.2900.2180 with updates, I don't seem able to install a
new version of IE6. And in XP IE cannot be removed, or so it seems.
