IE won't launch

Hey, all. Thanks.

User installed a downloaded 2 year upgrade copy of Norton. IE wouldn't
launch afterwards.

I uninstalled Norton and have been through the usual hijackthis routine.
Installed Windows defender. Ran sfc. Still no IE.

What next? Thanks

Which version of XP is the system running ? You could attempt a
reinstall of IE by running this command via Start, Run

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
D:\WINDOWS\inf\ie.inf

To reset IE's default settings :

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
D:\WINDOWS\inf\iereset.inf

NOTE: You might be prompted for your Windows installation media .
Use the ServicePackFiles\i386 folder in the WINDOWS directory if SP2
was applied. 'mswrd632.wpc' is usually in Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv and 'INSTALL.INS' is usually in Program
Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP.
