IE version no. is missing(On Add/Move Programs,it was read as Q831

Can't install Norton Antivirus 2004 or Mcafee Antivirus, coz my IE version no. is missing(On Add/Move Programs, it was read as Q831167). This could be caused by implementing "Hijackthis" while I was trying to get rid of "Trojan Horse Dropper.Small.5.j" virus. Should I uninstall my IE and reinstall it afterwards ?

Thanks a lot for your assistance. The O/S for my notebook is Windows XP and IE vesion is Ver. 6 Service Pack 1. The error message kept prompting that I needed a IE version higher than 5.1 for installation of Norton Anti-Virus. I believe that I'd removed all viruses by installing AVG Anti-Virus.

(members of Trojan family) by installing AVG Anti-virus.
