I have an issue when trying to save a file downloaded through IE 6. The file
will attempt to save to my hard drive but when the save process is finished,
the file disappears. I am currently using Win XP SP 2 and when I downgrade
to SP 1, IE works like it should. Does anyone know why this is occuring with
IE in SP 2?

All downloaded files or just some?

Is Windows Defender B2 installed?

For some users of Defender B2, there is a known bug when opening email
attachments/downloading files.

Start > Run > (type in) Regedit > OK

Navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ComponentCategories\{56FFCC30-D398-11D0-B2AE-00A0C908FA49}

Right-click on it > Delete it > Close Regedit > Reboot.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2
support and comments. If the above doesn't help, please post to one of the
Defender newsgroups for further suggestions. See
