IE will not process hyperlinks

B

Brett Erlandson

Recently, I installed a desktop application not knowing
it was only for machines running WindowsXP. I am using
Windows98. After running the setup routine, I had
problems with msvcrt.dll and could not restart my machine
until I reloaded the msvcrt.dll file from the Windows98
CD. Since this time, when I click on a hyperlink on a
website or in an e-mail message, I get a blank white IE
window. If the stop and refresh buttons are available
with the IE window, I can click stop and then refresh to
view the page. Java applications do not work. I have
attempted to de-install and re-install IE 6.0 to no
avail. I am guessing there is some DLL related to XP
which is not getting removed or over-written which is
causing my problem.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts.

Thanks in advance---
Brett

See if this works:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll
succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2
through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3,
replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file
names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

And reboot... just in case.

Hope this helps,
Debbie
