We have IE 6 and all of a sudden the icon that shows internet status & allows you to disconnect has vanished. I ran the Norton Antivirus and it came up with nothing. The problem showed up shortly after installing the last auto-update. Its a pain when you cant find out connection speed & you have to unplug the phone line or re-start cpu to disconnect from the internet.
Go to Control Panel | Network and Internet Connections | Network
Connections. There will be an icon for your dial-up connection.
When connected, you can check the connection status or disconnect by
clicking that icon.
To get back the system tray icon, right-click the dial-up connection,
click Properties, and put a check mark in the box "Show icon in
notification area when connected".
