Need some help with XP Network Connections

A client called today, having some problems with XP. His
dial-up connection icon has mysteriously vanished from the
Network Connections screen. When we tried the inetwiz to
make a new connection, it listed the 'missing' connection
as already present. When we checked under Internet
Options, again the 'missing' connection was present, and
set as default. Had the client try launching IE, and it
brought up the connection and connected fine, but did not
show up in the taskbar with status. Using Internet
Options we removed all dial-up connections and re-created
the connectoid, but 10 minutes later it vanished again
from the Network Connections screen. I've already
searched on line for this, and found only a few discussion
groups where someone had listed the same problem, but
never gotten a response. Any help I can get would be
appreciated, thanks.

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

Thanks, I'll have the client check those and see what
happens. Will post back up for more help if this doesn't
fix it.
