Modem Status Icon Missing...

I am having problems keeping my Modem connection status
icon in the system tray (taskbar):
I have to make a new connection with the Wizard in order
to see it, because when I restart the computer it doesn't
come back; Also, the icon for the connection vanishes
from my Network Connections folder. I can't disconnect
without 'unpluging' the line- to make it timeout and
attempt to reconnect... I have no idea at what bps I am
connected at...etc.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this frustrating
problem?
P.S. "show icon in notification area when connected" has
always been selected- so the answer isn't in that
direction.

property. No icon

Well, lo and behold, I got this working some other way

I went to control panel, sound control, click on the speaker icon
Out pop both the speaker and network icons

There must be some kind of program bug for this"

Found this in another section might help especially if you can remember playing about with your speaker pref,s
