IE settings don't stick

Hi

sbs 2003 premium. I added a new user on an xp client pc. In IE 7.0 I ticked
under LAN Settings I ticked 'Use a proxy server for your LAN...' and added
192.168.16.2 in Address and 8080 in Port. This works fine to browse
internet. Problem is once the user logs off and logs back in the 'Use a
proxy server for your LAN...' ticks goes off and user has to tick manually
every time he/she need internet access after a new login.

What is the problem and why does the tick not stick as is usually the case?

Thanks

In Group Policy on the server:

START | RUN | Type mmc & press ENTER

Scroll down & add the GROUP POLICY OBJECT EDITOR

Click BROWSE & choose DEFAULT DOMAIN POLICY

USER CONFIGURATION | ... | WINDOWS SETTINGS | INTERNET EXPLORER | CONNECTION

In the right pane double-click PROXY & add your 192 address with the port,
click OK
Above PROXY is AUTO CONFIGURATION & uncheck the box
In URL give it a homepage

Close/Exit the GPO & don't save settings

Go to the workstation: START | RUN | Type gpupdate /force & press ENTER

Now try that

Try rebooting, logging off...

IE settings are part of the user's profile. If the settings aren't saving
then you probably have profile related errors. Mandatory profile settings,
for example, would prevent the user from saving their own. Roaming profiles
with incorrect permissions on the profile share would be another. Check
your event logs....
