a while, then come and open it to go places online it says i am offline, try
again or work offline. click try again and it works. anyone know what is the
problem? never did this for months up till now and i made no changes
anywhere.

Whenever someone says they are having problems with the Internet, I
always suggest they first do this troubleshooting:

1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). These programs are free, so use them both since
they complement each other. Be sure to update these programs before
running, and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.

After you know your computer is virus and spyware-free, if you need more
help then please repost. Be sure to tell us what you've already done.

Have you investigated the possibility that there is something wrong with
your physical setup? Perhaps you should swap out the ethernet cables,
or check with your ISP to see if the actual cable modem needs to be
replaced. It does happen that cable modems get old and need to be
replaced, particularly if you've had the same one for years.

Additionally, I'm going to suggest you post your question in an
IE-related newsgroup. The regular posters there are experts in IE,
which I am not. Here's a list of all the MS newsgroups:

Good luck,

i just had my cable modem replaced 2 days ago. and it did not happen wait,
maybe the modem is bad, i might need to get it replaced again becasue the
problem did not happen till after that. and since i used system restore, so
far i have not had the problem, i went back 1 previous day i think. so maybe
the sys restore helped too.
