IE Runtime Error, Visual C++ Runtime Library

Windows XP Prof, IE 6.0.28 with SP1

I have suddenly developed a problem: when I surf the net
my browser seems OK, but the minute I try and save a
picture after downloading it, I get the dreaded pop-up
error message that looks like:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
abnormal program termination
(OK) button

IE does not save downloaded picture and just shuts and
I'm back on desktop.

On browsing the Chats Board, I note others with similar
problem and have done unchecking of box for 3rd party
browser extension in IE, but no use..

Any REAL ideas/help?????

It's caused by a parasite.

Runtime Library Microsoft Visual C++, Runtime Error Program
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe or Iexplore.exe, abnormal program termination.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
