IE opens new instance for each picture

IE 6.0 starts new instance for every .gif or .jpg file I
open until the maximum number of IE instances is reached.
Others, running IE6 on W2k can open multiple pages within
the same IE instance. MS Article 199292 talks about this
problem but it does not apply nor can I adapt it to work
for W2K and IE6.

Maybe Tools>Internet Options>Advanced in the Browsing section, see if the
checkbox labeled "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is checked. HTH.

The checkbox labeled "Reuse windows for launching
shortcuts" is already checked...Any other ideas? The
problem is the same as described in MS Article 199292, but
Microsoft provides no fix for the problem for W2K/IE6.

Any reason you're using IE instead of Imaging? Seems it would be less
hardware intensive.

I use IE because it has the Back and Forward buttons. I
can (if I could get it fixed) open several pictures or
pages and then step back through each one without having
to navigate to their locations again. Imaging doesn't
have that capability.

I know this doesn't fix your problem, but there is a very nice freeware
image manipulation program called IrfanView that does this and a whole lot
more including slideshows and screensavers. www.irfanview.com if you are
interested (821k).

Seems to me that in order to do that you need to Open said pictures from
within IE then.

Hi Steve,

I am running Windows 2000 SP3, Internet Explorer 6, and I have used KB199292 to
configure Internet Explorer to open multiple JPEGs in the same Internet Explorer
window. For the file extensions in question, did you check to make certain the Use
DDE section matches the values given in KB199292?

NOTE: Since KB199292 was written for Win9x, some steps are incorrect.

Step 1: "Folder Options on the View menu" should read:
Folder Options on the Tools menu

Step 2: "and then click Edit" should read:
click Advanced, select Open, and then click Edit
