JPG's open in new instance of Internet Explorer

Hm, no answers?
Let's try again.

Previously had this problem with earlier versions.
Now using Explorer 6 under Windows XP and am having it
again.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 199292
descibes the problem:
When you open a Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpg)
image or a Graphics Interchange Format (.gif) image, the
file may open in a new instance of Internet Explorer.

(IOW, I'm trying to _avoid_ the new instances and have it
open the new image in the same instance, replacing the
previous one.)

Article gives solution for Explorer 5 but not for 6.
Any ideas?

Also, new Explorer windows open by clicking on links open
rather small. Anyway to set them to open maximized?

Thanks!

I really wish I could help but I have the opposite problem: when I open a
..JPG from my desktop or elsewhere on my computer, it opens in an exsisting
instance of IE, overwriting what I was previously viewing/working on. At
work, I am in an IE environment so when I try to view a JPG I can
inadvertently lose a lot of work in that IE window without the option of
going "back" to it. Does anyone know how to correct this? Maybe it's the
same toggle that we're both looking for, for you to turn off for me to turn
on?

Nope didn't help for the jpg's.
(Though it should solve Tamika's problem, I'd think...)

Under the restored defaults it still acts just like I
said.
(One exception, while jpg's are opening new instances,
they are opening maximized. Odd.)

As for maximimzing, wow, that worked.
Microsoft had said to maximize the new window then close
it, which didn't work.
They never said to close the first one!
Strangely even then it wouldn't work.
You have to, as you said, manually stretch the new window.
Weird.
Thanks!

Hi,
How about From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> CHECK "Reuse
windows
for launching shortcuts."
